As the sun set, all eyes were looking to the sky as the mighty Royal Netherland Airforce F-16 roared past to thrill the crowds.
As the F-16 turns for a vertical climb above the firing site and shows its afterburners, Reaction Fireworks follow the jet with a barrage of shells.
Now that is how you start a firework spectacular!
The fireworks mark exactly 12 hours to the opening of the Sunderland International Airshow, one of the largest free airshows in Europe.
